Craig Sinclair

Craig Sinclair

CHAIR

  • Craig has considerable experience as a Director, CEO and C-suite executive across publicly listed, private equity, state owned enterprises and early stage businesses. 

    He has held leadership roles requiring large scale culture change, strategy development and turn-arounds and growth through global partnering.  

    He qualified in Law and has completed the Stanford Executive Management Program at Stanford University. Craig is now a full-time director across a number of early stage businesses.

Danny Chan CarbonScape

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

  • Danny headed Fidelity Investments’ Taiwan office and was on their Asia Pacific regional board during 1986-1994.

    His current directorships include UP Education, Auckland University Business School Advisory Board, Microgem International Plc, Move Logistics and Marlborough Wine Estate.

    Danny is on the board of the NZ-China Council, Asia-NZ Foundation, Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence and the Confucius Institute in Auckland. He holds a BCA (Hons) from Victoria University of Wellington.

Mike Ashburn  Non-Exec Director

Mike Ashburn

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

  • Mike is a clean technology investor, project developer and advisor to technology start-ups. As one of the co-founders of ClearWorld Energy, a leading developer of carbon reduction projects in China, he has played a leading role in promoting low-carbon technologies and businesses over the last 20 years. He has experience in energy infrastructure, electric power technology, M&A, construction contracting, fund-raising and business strategy.

    After 35 years in Asia, Mike is now based in the UK and manages Clearworld’s investment portfolio, which includes CarbonScape and other innovative companies.

    Mike has a BSc (Hons) First Class in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manchester.

Tim Langley

Tim Langley

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

  • Co-founder of CarbonScape Ltd and Chair of CarbonScape Holdings Ltd, Tim is a human services innovator and entrepreneur. He has 35 years’ experience in senior management, strategic leadership and corporate governance in New Zealand and Australia. Tim has a BTheol from Otago University.

    Tim was the first investor and Executive Director of CarbonScape and, as such, was responsible for the growth, performance and impact of the company during its first decade.

    Tim works closely with the CarbonScape Holdings Ltd shareholders and the Directors of both companies, helping to ensure alignment between the key stakeholders of the CarbonScape Group.

Juuso Konttinen

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

  • Director & Stora Enso Oyj representative

    Based in Helsinki, Finland, Juuso has more than 20 years experience in the global B2B materials businesses in the forest industry.

    He is currently Senior Vice President of Stora Enso’s Biomaterials Growth Business Unit and was leading new businesses at UPM including most recent role as VP of UPM’s Biochemicals business unit.

    Juuso holds a Masters in Forest Product Technology, a Masters in Economics and Masters in International Business. In addition he has executive education from Harvard, IMD, Kellogg, Singularity and Aalto. Currently Juuso sits on the Board of Elomatic Oy and has held multiple Advisory, Board, Vice-Chair and Chair roles.

Pasi Kyckling

OBSERVER TO THE BOARD 

  • Experienced finance professional with proven leadership track record in number of senior roles in an international environment including periods of living and working abroad.

    Over 10 years of senior finance roles at Stora Enso. Notable achievements in change leadership, strategy execution, cost and working capital improvements, combining sustainability and financing, day to day leadership and result delivery in wide finance areas.

Ivan Williams

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

  • Originally from Marlborough, Ivan returned from Europe in February 2019 to join CarbonScape as the Operations Director before succeeding Tim Langley as CEO in November 2019. 

    With more than 25 years of rich international business experience in the renewable energy and sustainability markets, Ivan brings an impressive track record in business acumen and leadership. He has previously held CEO, Managing Director, Vice President and Corporate P&L roles for global businesses up to €100m. 

    Ivan holds an honours degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from the University of Canterbury.

Darryl Robinson

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

  • Darryl has built a successful career in finance leadership roles spanning both large corporates and the high-growth tech sector.

    His significant financial experience and commercial acumen, combined with excellent communication skills, have enabled Darryl to thrive in challenging and fast-paced environments where he has helped companies mature, raise funding, and scale globally.

Dr. Jay Kim

CHIEF PRODUCT OFFICER

  • Jay Kim has immense depth of knowledge and experience and technical expertise in the field of in battery science and its practical application.

    Over two decades Jay has spearheaded the development of cutting-edge lithium-ion battery technologies – from ESS and EV cells to fast-charging and high-silicon content batteries – and led the planning, commissioning, and optimization of large-scale production facilities, including three years at Northvolt and over eleven at Samsung SDI. Jay has authored over 100 registered patents as well as numerous scientific publications.

Oliver Foster

GENERAL MANAGER

  • Oliver has 20 years of experience as a petroleum geologist, resources analyst and in corporate finance.

    He has worked as a petroleum geologist on various exploration and production rigs offshore Australia and Asia. Oliver also spent 10 years as an oil and gas analyst and Executive Director of a boutique Australian natural resources investment bank, raising more than $1b in new equity for mainly small businesses before moving into energy corporate finance.

    Oliver holds a BSc (Geology) from the University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investments from the Securities Institute of Australia (now FINSIA).

Dr. Heinrich Badenhorst

DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

  • Heinrich has a BEng and PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He has more than 15 years’ combined experience in industrial process optimisation and academic research, and authored 30+ publications in international journals with several hundred citations.

    Heinrich has worked at numerous petro and fine chemical companies across Europe, the USA, South Korea and South Africa, designing and commissioning multi-variable, model based, control solutions.

    While at GrafTech Intl, the University of Pretoria and the University of Manchester, Heinrich developed several new characterisation methods and graphite materials for a wide range of renewable applications. These included the use of XRD, Raman and oxidation etching to study graphite micro-structure and the enhancement of high thermal conductivity graphite additives for solar thermal energy storage.

Dr. Peter Levett

PROJECTS & ENGINEERING MANAGER

  • Peter is a chartered Chemical Engineer with a PhD in Materials Engineering jointly awarded by QUT in Australia and Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

    Peter has previously worked in project scoping, project delivery and technical engineering roles for Origin Energy and QGC. With project delivery experience in heavy industrial settings for multinational companies, Peter brings a deep understanding of the project lifecycle to the CarbonScape team.

    Peter remains a Director of a start-up he co-founded in 2018, based on technologies developed during his PhD research.
